I've always loved drawing and painting but came to study as a mature student when I returned to college part-time to do an Access to Art and Design course at North Oxfordshire School of Art where I studied for 2 years. I then went on to do a H.N.D. Design Illustration course at Swindon College which I graduated from in 1997. In debt and sadly still not sure of the direction my art was going I did not pursue a career in that field.
I began again seriously approx 2 years ago specialising in pastel portraiture and have spent many hours perfecting my technique and style. My style is realistic however I choose not to show every wrinkle , blemish or bead of sweat but concentrate on trying to capture the essence of the subject. I work from photographs preferably which I have taken myself I also prefer to use unusual angles and cropping of subjects for added interest and to take it further away from a photographic snapshot
